Koto Hime

The very small leaves are palmate, resemble a human hand.
New leaves are red, with a little green at the centers, then become light green.
'Hime' means literally 'Princess' but here indicates a dwarf.

Plant Hardiness Zones 6a, 6b, 7a, 7b, 8a, 8b, 9a

This maple becomes 36-48" tall when grown as a garden tree.

  1. I planted a koto home in my garden in Portland... It was April... And was about 4ft tall with multiple branches. Started growing rapidly and then it got hot during the summer so I watered the garden..

Now the leaves are dead and the branches are dying... Anyone knows what is happening?

Appreciate any comments on how to turn the corner and save this lovely tree.

    Thank you.

  2. If it got too dry before it got watered the leaves dried out. Keep the soil moist. The tree is in shock and has gone dormant. Hopefully in about 3-4 weeks of rest new branches will grow from the base of the old leaves
